***** 5 stars
I had really high hopes for this title and it didn’t disappoint. This is really a solid effort from cover to cover and this is an easy contender for a best of list later in the year.
I’m normally a story guy, the art can make or break a comic for sure, but the story is what sells me on a series. With that said, I absolutely love the art here and it is a huge selling point of this comic. The colors are amazing and spot on and the character models are beautifully drawn. I love the 50’s and 60’s ad look that they went for and it is pulled off with perfection. I can not stress enough how good the art in this book is.
We have a house wife who is a secret assassin. A hit woman for hire. Her husband and kids blissfully ignorant. Only the prying mother in law is suspicious and she’s an old crabby woman that no one appears to take seriously. Josie (the focus of the story) accepts her assignments and delivers them out in any means necessary. This first issue sees her dressing up as an Avon sales lady to gain access to her target’s house. She’ll have to go more undercover (or out of cover) in the next issue to complete her task. There’s a promising story here and one that i’m excited to see unfold for the promised 5 issues. I did read an interview that there may be more of a future for the series. I’ll hold out hope that the series finds an audience.
Lady Killer is a definite win and a must read. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy while you still can. Issue 2 can’t get here soon enough.
